Smart Grids (SG) Expertise

General presentation of the Smart Grids expertise

The Smart Grids (SG) expertise of the Engineering school in Energetics Paoli Tech aims at training engineers who will contribute to innovative technology development in energetics and the respect for the environment.

In the final year, students will specialize in the following fields:

  • Energy demand management, energy systems and networks management
  • Energy systems dimensioning with a focus on renewable energies (photovoltaics, solar thermal sciences, hydraulics, wind energy, hydrogen storage)
  • Energy management and production in non-interconnected areas.

This specialization is made through specific Teaching Units (Hydrogen storage, Hydraulics, Photovoltaics, Wind energy,  Systems dimensioning, micro-grids and non-interconnected areas, Smart Grids applied to islands ...).

Course details

The expertise’s assets

The majority of the lessons on renewable energies are performed by professionals coming from the school’ partner companies (EDF, CEA ...) or from the research world (UMR CNRS SPE). Indeed, those classes represent an opportunity for the students to get in touch with professionals and to get a teaching similar to their future job.

In order to prepare them for their future profession, the students must complete projects on renewable energies proposed by different companies. This teamwork enables the students to put into practice their competences and to deal with the different phases of a project management.

Students also have access to the technology platforms MYRTE and PAGLIA ORBA. Thanks to full-scale practical exercises, students can get to see the different energy storage methods and get closer to the research world on the theme of renewable energies.
